An Update from SAFE

* Resolving to make the new year ahead better for all*

At the beginning of a new year people are naturally thinking of how to live a better life.  This year, why not ramp it up a notch and resolve to lessen our impact on other species as well.

It starts at home in our everyday lives.  There are so many options to choose from, like deciding not to eat food or wear clothes that come from animals, not use personal care or cleaners that were tested on animals, or choosing animal-free entertainment.

If everyone simply replaced at least one of these daily things with something that did not involve the use of animals, we would be actively creating a much kinder world for the animals, our children, and ourselves.

Already made the transition to a vegan lifestyle?  Great!  But there's still more you could do.  For example, you could eat locally grown organic non-GMO foods, buy fair trade products, compost...  The list is really endless, since everything we consume has repercussions on the lives of animals even in indirect ways.  So this year resolve to make another choice that even further minimizes your individual impact on the world.

* Canadian Federal Election *

It's important that everyone voices their concerns to politicians, especially during times of election.  They need to hear what citizens value and what worries them about our country.

Animal and environmental issues are often marginalized and not seen as key issues.  The failure of that perception is that the issues affecting all of the other-than-human world are an important mirror of our society and often offer early warning signs to looming trouble.  For example, the avian flu and mad cow disease, or escalating violence.  Also, the solution to many of the problems our human society faces, can be found in changing the way we see and treat animals and the natural world.  Moving away from the mass "production" and consumption of animals as commodities is a preventative approach to the majority of the issues facing humans such as health concerns, etc.

* SAFE Discussion Board *

We need your participation to get more discussion happening!  It can only grow into something fun and informative if you help us make it that way.  Please visit www.animalequality.org and choose "Forums" from the menu on the left, sign up and join in.
