Today is World Vegan Day!

Join in the celebration of World Vegan Day! World Vegan Day has been being celebrated since 1994 on November 1st, the anniversary of the creation of The Vegan Society in the UK. The Vegan Society was the world's first vegan organization and was founded in 1944 by Donald Watson (1910-2005). Mr. Watson and The Vegan Society were the first to coin the term "vegan" to describe the choice to eliminate dairy and other animal products from their diets. Today, veganism encompasses much more than people's diets, spanning into every aspect of their life.

For those who live a vegan lifestyle, take this opportunity of marking World Vegan Day by acknowledging the lives you have spared, and share your enthusiasm for the freedom and compassion you feel with others who may not yet have thought much about what veganism could mean to their lives and the lives of other animals.

For those of you who may not be living a vegan lifestyle, please consider making the choice today to not eat or wear or entertain yourself with any animal-derived products, at the very least for this one day. But we encourage you to also look at your own potentially limiting beliefs, that hold you in the habit of seeing and using other-than-human animals as a resource or thing. Today's a perfect day to make a commitment to release one of those limiting beliefs.

Celebrate World Vegan Day, for all life and our dear planet.

On October 30th, 2006 MP Mark Holland reintroduced Bill C-50 in the Canadian House of Commons. This bill will update the 1892 animal cruelty act.

For years, this bill has gone through many incarnations but has yet to be passed. This bill would be a big step forward to strengthen Canada's laws against blatant animal abuse and cruelty. Unfortunately though, it will not do anything to change the rampant daily tortures animals endure by the industries that make money from their use.

This would be a good time to contact your Federal MP and express your views on moving Canadian laws forward in regards to animals.
