From March 3rd to August 30th 2016, Animal Equality investigators documented 21 slaughterhouses in the Mexican states of Jalisco, Nuevo Leon, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, Colima, Zacatecas y Nayarit.
The footage they obtained shows severe infractions to the Mexican Federal Animal Health Law. Animal Equality investigators documented the following acts of cruelty::
Pigs being hit on the head multiple times with a mallet.
Heavy animals hung upside-down while conscious.
Animals being killed in full-sight of others.
Lambs and goats stabbed multiple times while fully conscious.
These animals are violently killed, tied by their legs, pulled from one of their ends and their throats slit.
Workers crush agonising pigs to increase the bleeding.
Cows regaining consciousness after stunning, trying to stand up and bleeding to death.
All pigs were conscious when knifed.
Slaughterhouse workers killing more than three pigs at the same time.
There are no legal consequences for the workers. We need laws that protect farmed animals from these acts of cruelty. Animal Equality is working in Mexico to pass new laws that would protect farmed animals.
