'Bleeding hearts' needed

Re: "Speak up for seals," Letter to the editor, Friday, March 31.

I can't help but feel sorry for the person who thinks that no energy should be spent on any concern for animals.

It's just that kind of harsh disregard that creates the apathetic society we live in.

But that is also what creates the need for us "bleeding hearts" to speak up for those oppressed.

For someone to be so hardened, I hope they are never in need of anyone to feel any empathy for them. If they don't feel it, they may never receive it.
