We View Animals With Double Standard

Re: Cat Killed, Eaten, Cops Say. I was horrified when I read someone would kill and eat a cat. My heart goes out to Prowler's family. I am equally horrified every single day to think of the thousands and thousands of animals that are being killed and eaten, namely cows, chickens and pigs.

Each of those animals is just like Prowler, except maybe they never had the dignity of a name and a loving family.

I do not want to minimize Prowler's terrible death in any way. I want to highlight the duality in our society. We eat some animals as though they are things, and love and cherish other animals as any family member.

Maybe Prowler's tragedy will help people see this duality the next time they sit down to dinner. Then maybe his death will spare another animal from ending up on someone's plate.
